The Sun Summoner’s attempt at destroying the Shadow Fold failed. Weakened from exerting too much of her power, she, along with Mal Oretsev, Zoya Nazyalensky, and the Crows fled the fold and left the Darkling behind to the mercy of the volcra. Presumed dead, the Darkling managed to pull himself free from the fold with a new scar and a burning darkness in his heart. Looking back, many would say this was the death knell for humanity, as it was because of a lack of funding that caused NASA to miss the asteroid as it struck Earth, landing somewhere near the US. The impact was great, sending enough debris into the atmosphere to thrust the world into a years-long impact winter. The queen’s forces forced dragons to fight for them. They formed powerful bonds and fought ruthlessly in the skies and on the ground, until the dragons, too, rebelled.
